Sisters of the Rose: Celina’s Lunalights
Celina, from Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, came to the Standard Dimension as an agent of the Fusion Dimension’s Duel Academy and wielded a potent Deck that took her to the Top 8 of Arc League Championship. We’ve seen her Deck take out numerous opponents, and in the TCG, Lunalights have been seen in some other strategies but never the focus of tournament-winning strategies. However, with the release of Legendary Duelists: Sisters of the Rose, the Lunalight strategy gets a major boost!
First up we have Lunalight Emerald Bird and Lunalight Yellow Marten. When you Normal or Special Summon Lunalight Emerald Bird, you can send a Lunalight card in your hand to the Graveyard to draw a card. The card draw is nice, and putting Lunalight monsters in your Graveyard is even better since you can revive them with Lunalight White Rabbit’s effect, Lunalight Tiger’s Pendulum Effect, Luna Light Perfume or classics like Monster Reborn and Call of the Haunted. Or, you can use Lunalight Wolf’s Pendulum Effect to Fusion Summon a Lunalight monster using monsters in your Graveyard as Fusion Materials. If loading up the Graveyard and drawing cards wasn’t enough, you can also trigger the effects cards like Lunalight Crimson Fox, Lunalight Kaleido Chick, and the brand-new Lunalight Yellow Marten! You can Special Summon Yellow Marten from your hand or Graveyard by bouncing a Lunalight monster you control to the hand. This lets you re-use powerful monster effects like Lunalight White Rabbit or Lunalight Black Sheep but it also gives you the chance to re-use the once-per-turn effects on the Lunalight Pendulum monsters! You can Special Summon another monster with Lunalight Tiger or perform another Fusion Summon with Lunalight Wolf! If Yellow Marten sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, you can add a Lunalight Spell or Trap from your Deck to your hand. Granted, this can’t add Luna Light Perfume since it’s not a Lunalight card, but it can add either of the 2 new Lunalight Spell/Traps…
Lunalight Fusion is the first Spell Card with “Lunalight” in its name – so Yellow Marten can add this card your hand with its effect – and appropriately enough, it’s a Fusion Summoning Spell Card. While normally you would use monsters on your field or in your hand for Fusion Materials, if your opponent controls a monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, you can use 1 Lunalight Monster in your Deck or Extra Deck as one of the Fusion Materials instead! Being able to use Lunalight Cat Dancer as a Fusion Material without having to Fusion Summon it first is huge since Summoning Lunalight Panther Dancer is how you’re going to deal the most damage, but in a pinch you can send a monster from your Deck to the Graveyard if you need to setup another play later.
Lunalight Serenade Dance is the theme’s first Continuous Trap, and it allows you to assemble the game-ending field you’re looking for even if your opponent isn’t cooperating. When you Fusion Summon a Fusion Monster, you get 2 effects: first, you Special Summon a Lunalight Token to your opponent’s field (it has 2000 ATK, but using Lunalight Crimson Fox’s effect afterward can make its ATK 0) and your Fusion Monster gains 500 ATK for each monster your opponent controls, which includes the Lunalight Token you just gave them. If Serenade Dance is in your Graveyard, you can banish it to Special Summon a Lunalight Monster from your Deck. Its effects aren’t negated so bringing out Lunalight Blue Cat can double your Fusion Monster’s ATK which can end the Duel in a single turn!
And if we’re looking at big Fusion Monsters, one more Lunalight Fusion Monster joins the team: Lunalight Sabre Dancer requires any 3 Lunalight Monsters, so it doesn’t require one of the previous Lunalight Fusion Monsters to Fusion Summon it. Sabre Dancer has 3000 ATK and gains more ATK for every Beast-Warrior that is in Graveyards or is banished, but it can’t make multiple attacks like the other Fusion Monsters can. But this monster’s true strength lies in its Graveyard effect. You can banish it from the Graveyard to give a Fusion Monster you control 3000 ATK until the end of the turn. This effect is just another finisher to add to the list of finishers already in the Lunalight toolbox. Giving your Lunalight Panther Dancer or Lunalight Leo Dancer more ATK adds up for every additional attack they make, so your aim is to hit your opponent as hard as you can with one big Lunalight Fusion Monster. Thanks to Lunalight Fusion, it’s super easy to put Lunalight Sabre Dancer in the Graveyard to dish out massive damage the following turn!
You can find all the newest Lunalight cards in Legendary Duelists: Sisters of the Rose, on sale at Official Tournament Stores on January 10th and everywhere else on January 11th!
