Dark Neostorm: Dive Deeper
There’s darkness at the bottom of the ocean, and in that darkness lies a new Mermail monster! Dark Neostorm introduces a powerful Mermail Link Monster – Mermail Abyssalacia – to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME!
Mermail Abyssalacia is a Link 2 WATER monster that you can Link Summon by sending 2 Fish, Sea Serpent, and/or Aqua monster to the Graveyard. That makes Abyssalacia easiest to Link Summon in Decks that use lots of monsters of these types, including Decks built around Atlantean and Mermail monsters.
Abyssalacia has 1600 ATK and Link Arrows that point in the bottom-right and bottom-left directions. Each monster linked to Abyssalacia gains 500 ATK and DEF, allowing Abyssalacia to give 2 monsters a sizable boost. But Mermail Abyssalacia’s other two effects, each of which can be used once per turn, are what make it an extraordinary addition to Atlantean and Mermail strategies.
The first of those two effects is a Quick Effect that can be used during an opponent’s turn. This effect lets you send a card from your hand to your Graveyard as a cost, and then add a Mermail monster from your Deck to your hand.
The second of those two effects activates if Mermail Abyssalacia is destroyed by an opponent’s attack or card effect while it’s in its owner’s possession. This effect lets you send a WATER monster from your Deck to your Graveyard as part of its cost, and then target a WATER monster in your Graveyard to Special Summon the targeted monster in Defense Position.
Since both of these two effects send cards to the Graveyard as part of a cost to activate them, using either one of these two effects will help to trigger the effects of Atlantean and Mermail monsters that have been released over the past several years. Many Atlantean monsters, including Atlantean Dragoons, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, and Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince, have effects that activate when they’re sent to the Graveyard to activate a WATER monster’s effect.
Using either one of Abyssalacia’s effects will allow you to send one of these monsters to the Graveyard as part of the cost so that you can activate the sent monster’s effect. Some Mermail monsters, including Mermail Abyssgunde and Mermail Abysshilde, have effects that activate if they’re discarded to the Graveyard or sent to the Graveyard, allowing Mermail Abyssalacia to provide additional synergy to strategies involving Mermail monsters.
Abyssalacia’s first of the two once per turn effects, which adds a Mermail monster from the Deck to the hand, can give you access to whichever Mermail monster you need. You can even use this effect to add Mermail Abyssdine to your hand.
When Mermail Abyssdine is added to your hand from your Graveyard or your Deck by a card effect while you control a Mermail monster, you can Special Summon Mermail Abyssdine from your hand, and then Special Summon a Level 3 or lower Mermail monster from your Graveyard. Adding Abyssdine to your hand with the effect of Mermail Abyssalacia will immediately allow you to Special Summon Abyssdine along with another Mermail monster, and set you up for the Link Summon of another monster. Abyssalacia’s second of the two once per turn effects, which Special Summons a WATER monster from the Graveyard, can also help to set up additional Link Summons.
Mermail Abyssalacia is a powerful addition to the Atlantean and Mermail strategy. Abyssalacia makes it easy to use the strongest effects of the Atlantean monsters, and carries a couple of powerful effects of its own. You can add Abyssalacia to your Extra Deck when Dark Neostorm releases on May 3rd!
